What's happening
This bill requires public disclosure of proposed public employee union or school district collective bargaining agreements and their costs at least two weeks before approval.
Why it matters
Enhances transparency in public spending. by making the terms and economic impact of public employee union and school district contracts publicly accessible before final approval, allowing taxpayers to understand potential financial burdens or commitments.
Empowers community oversight and informed participation. by requiring these documents to be posted online and in public libraries, giving citizens a meaningful window to review, question, or raise concerns about labor agreements that affect local budgets and services.
Reduces opportunities for rushed or non-transparent contract approvals. by mandating a minimum two-week public review period, which can discourage back-room negotiations and encourage more open, accountable decision-making by public bodies.
