What's happening
This bill requires individuals with suspended or revoked firearm licenses to also surrender antique, black powder, and muzzle-loading firearms.
Why it matters
Closes a legal loophole. by ensuring that individuals whose firearm licenses are suspended or revoked cannot retain possession of antique, black powder, or muzzle-loading firearms—types often excluded from modern gun regulations.
Addresses potential safety risks. by removing access to any operable, potentially lethal firearms (including those using older technology) from individuals deemed unfit to have a firearms license, thereby aiming to reduce incidents of violence or harm.
Expands law enforcement authority. to confiscate a broader range of firearms, making it easier to enforce compliance and declare such weapons a nuisance if not surrendered voluntarily.
Means that a revoked or suspended license results in a comprehensive surrender. of all firearms, regardless of type, making the law more consistent and less subject to interpretation or exploitation.
