What's happening
This bill allows drivers to use as a defense that a traffic signal was manipulated by an officer to issue a ticket.
Why it matters
Protects drivers from unfair prosecution. by allowing them to argue that a ticket is invalid if the traffic signal was intentionally manipulated by law enforcement or other authorized personnel with the purpose of issuing a ticket.
Creates a check on police conduct. by making it riskier and less effective for officers to manipulate traffic signals for the purpose of generating citations, potentially deterring such practices.
Could increase transparency and accountability. in traffic enforcement by requiring courts to consider claims of signal manipulation, making it easier for drivers to challenge questionable tickets.
Might impact how traffic violations are enforced and contested. drivers and their attorneys would have a new legal tool to fight tickets, which could lead to more scrutiny of how traffic signals are managed and how tickets are issued.
