What's happening
This bill requires advertisements showing discounts or rebates to also display the original selling price in the same font and size.
Why it matters
Enhances transparency for consumers. by ensuring that shoppers can easily compare the original price with the discounted or rebated price, making it harder for advertisers to exaggerate savings or mislead customers.
Standardizes advertising practices. by requiring the original selling price and discounted price to be displayed in the same font and size, reducing the chance that key price information is hidden in fine print or less noticeable text.
Helps consumers make more informed purchasing decisions. by giving clear, side-by-side price information, which can particularly benefit those trying to budget or avoid deceptive marketing tactics.
Could impact retailer marketing strategies. , as businesses may need to rethink how they present promotions if they can no longer rely on highlighting only the discounted price in bold or large fonts while minimizing the original price.
