What's happening

This bill requires insurers to notify homeowners that filing a claim may impact premiums, policy coverage, or renewal eligibility.

Why it matters

  1. Gives homeowners clear, up-front information. about the potential consequences of filing a claim, helping them make more informed decisions before submitting minor or questionable claims that could affect their insurance costs or coverage options.

  2. Promotes transparency and accountability among insurers. by legally requiring them to communicate policy risks that are often buried in fine print or not discussed until after a claim is made.

  3. May influence homeowner behavior. by making people think twice before filing small claims, potentially reducing the number of claims and affecting the dynamics of the insurance market (such as claim frequency and premium adjustments).

  4. Could help prevent surprises and financial hardship. for homeowners who might otherwise lose coverage or face steep premium increases without prior warning, supporting greater consumer protection.
