What's happening
This bill requires the placement of reflectors on all lanes of state highways during construction, reconstruction, or maintenance work.
Why it matters
Improves Work Zone Safety. By requiring reflectors on all lanes during highway work, the bill aims to make work zones more visible to drivers, which can reduce accidents and protect both workers and motorists.
Standardizes Safety Measures. The legislation gives the commissioner the authority to determine the specific size, shape, and type of reflectors, ensuring a consistent approach across all state highways rather than leaving safety practices up to individual contractors or regions.
Addresses Nighttime and Low-Visibility Risks. Reflectors are particularly beneficial during nighttime or poor weather conditions, helping drivers better distinguish lane boundaries and navigate safely through altered or temporary lane configurations.
