What's happening
This bill allows the State Liquor Authority to add enforceable terms and conditions to on-premises alcohol licenses after consultation.
Why it matters
Gives the State Liquor Authority (SLA) clear power to tailor and enforce specific requirements. such as noise limits, operating hours, or security measures—on bars, restaurants, clubs, and other venues with on-premises alcohol licenses, responding to local concerns or issues as they arise.
Requires consultation with both the license applicant and any party entitled to notice. (e.g., community boards or local government) before terms are imposed, which could increase transparency and allow for community input or negotiation in the licensing process.
Makes such terms and conditions legally enforceable. , meaning violations could result in penalties or loss of license—potentially improving accountability and compliance among licensed establishments and giving the SLA more flexibility to address specific neighborhood or public interest concerns.
Standardizes this authority across multiple types of on-premises licenses. , ensuring consistent application whether the venue is a bar, restaurant, club, hotel, or other establishment, and potentially setting a precedent for more active regulatory oversight in the hospitality industry.
