What's happening
This bill increases the annuity for veterans and surviving spouses to $1,500 and provides for annual cost-of-living adjustments.
Why it matters
Directly increases financial support for veterans and their surviving spouses. by raising the minimum annuity to $1,500, which may help address rising living costs and provide more stable income to this population.
Introduces an annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). tied to the federal VA’s compensation and pension benefit increases, ensuring that future annuity payments keep pace with inflation and federal benefit trends.
Adds transparency and accessibility. by requiring the state to publicly post the updated annuity amounts each year, including online, making it easier for veterans and families to know what benefits to expect.
Sets clear limits on annual increases. (minimum 1%, maximum 4%), which may help with predictable budgeting for both recipients and the state while still guaranteeing a baseline increase each year.
