What's happening

This bill requires the public disclosure of medical marijuana certifying practitioners' information online, unless they opt out in writing.

Why it matters

  1. Increases public transparency. By making the names and contact information of registered medical marijuana certifying practitioners available online, the bill allows patients and the public to more easily identify and contact practitioners authorized to certify medical marijuana use.

  2. Supports patient access. Patients seeking medical marijuana will have a centralized, up-to-date, and searchable online resource to find practitioners, potentially reducing confusion and barriers to care.

  3. Respects practitioner privacy. Practitioners are given an opt-out option—if they notify the department in writing, their information will not be disclosed, balancing transparency with individual privacy and safety concerns.

  4. Could impact practitioner participation. The requirement for public disclosure (unless opted out) might influence some practitioners’ willingness to register as certifiers, possibly affecting the overall availability of certifying providers.
