What's happening
This bill requires cemeteries to provide and post a state-created disclosure form with key information about interments, fees, and regulations.
Why it matters
Empowers consumers. By requiring cemeteries to proactively provide a standardized disclosure form before any discussions, the bill ensures that families have clear, consistent information about their rights, costs, and cemetery regulations before making decisions during a vulnerable time.
Promotes transparency and prevents misunderstandings. The disclosure must include details on cemetery regulation, resale and inheritance rights, reasons for denial of interment, required enclosures, trust funds, and a full listing of fees—helping to prevent hidden costs or surprises that often occur in cemetery arrangements.
Creates state oversight and accountability. The form is created, maintained, and periodically updated by the state cemetery board, ensuring that information reflects current laws and practices and that cemeteries are held to uniform standards statewide.
Improves accessibility to information. By mandating both physical posting in cemetery offices and online availability, the bill makes it easier for the public to access vital information, empowering consumers to compare options and make informed choices.
