What's happening
This bill requires towns with websites to provide an electronic version of the town clerk's sign-board and link it on their homepage.
Why it matters
Improves public access to legal notices. By requiring towns with websites to post an electronic version of the clerk’s sign-board, the bill makes it easier for residents to find important legal notices online without visiting town offices in person.
Promotes government transparency. Making official notices readily available and linked from the town homepage ensures that residents have better visibility into town decisions, hearings, and public postings, which can affect local governance and daily life.
Reduces barriers for participation. Residents who may have mobility issues, busy schedules, or live far from town centers will benefit from digital access, enabling more equitable participation in local government processes.
Modernizes compliance with existing law. The amendment brings a longstanding legal requirement for physical sign-boards into the digital age, ensuring that towns leverage technology to meet their obligations and community expectations.
