What's happening

This bill requires school cafeteria supervisors to hold CPR certification and receive Heimlich maneuver training.

Why it matters

  1. Statewide requirement. Teachers and other personnel overseeing school cafeterias across New York would face new emergency-training requirements.

  2. Annual verification. Before each school year, covered staff would submit evidence of current CPR knowledge and skills and Heimlich maneuver training to their chief school officer.

  3. Certification standard. Staff would need a valid CPR certificate, with current knowledge and skills meeting requirements certified by the education commissioner.
