What's happening
This bill requires food service establishments in New York to notify patrons if peanut oil is used in food preparation.
Why it matters
Reduces health risks for people with peanut allergies. By requiring clear notification when peanut oil is used, the bill helps individuals with peanut allergies avoid accidental exposure, which can lead to severe or life-threatening reactions.
Increases transparency at restaurants. The mandate for signage or written notification ensures that food service establishments are upfront about their use of peanut oil, allowing consumers to make more informed decisions about where and what to eat.
Encourages consistent allergy communication standards. By specifying the exact language and methods of notification, the bill aims to create a uniform approach across New York, reducing confusion and gaps in allergy-related information for diners.
