What's happening

This bill repeals certain provisions of the executive and legislative laws related to records available for public inspection.

Why it matters

  1. Reduces government transparency. By repealing provisions that require certain executive and legislative records to be available for public inspection, this bill may make it harder for citizens, journalists, and watchdog groups to access information about government operations and decision-making.

  2. Impacts public oversight. The removal of these public inspection clauses could weaken the ability of the public to monitor ethical compliance, conflicts of interest, or potential misconduct by elected officials and government employees.

  3. Alters balance between privacy and accountability. While some officials may argue this change protects sensitive or private information, it also shifts the balance away from open government, potentially reducing accountability in both executive and legislative branches.
