What's happening
This bill prohibits organizations in the child health insurance plan from limiting providers who don't participate in their commercial networks.
Why it matters
Expands provider choice for families. By preventing organizations from limiting providers based on their commercial network participation, families using the child health insurance plan could have access to a broader range of doctors and specialists.
Promotes fairness in provider participation. The bill ensures that health care providers who choose not to join an organization's commercial insurance network are not excluded from serving children in the public insurance program, which could encourage more providers to participate.
Reduces potential conflicts of interest. Organizations can no longer use participation in their private/commercial networks as leverage for inclusion in the public child health program, reducing pressure on providers and supporting independent medical decision-making.
