What's happening

The bill requires suspension of alternate side parking rules within six blocks of streets with permitted film shoots and mandates public notification.

Why it matters

  1. Reduces parking hassles for residents and visitors. By suspending alternate side parking rules within six blocks of film shoots, local drivers are less likely to face unexpected tickets or be forced to move their cars multiple times during film productions.

  2. Creates more transparency and predictability. The requirement for municipalities to notify the public in advance about changes to parking rules means residents and businesses will have clearer, earlier information, making it easier to plan.

  3. Helps balance community and industry needs. While film shoots can disrupt neighborhoods, this law attempts to minimize some of the inconvenience for locals, possibly improving relations between film crews and affected communities.

  4. Standardizes citywide response to film permit parking. By specifying how and when rules are suspended and notifications are issued, the bill ensures a consistent approach across New York City, reducing confusion and improving fairness.

Who cares

  • Drivers parking near film shoots

The bill would suspend alternate-side parking rules on streets within a six-block radius of permitted filming that requires parking restrictions, with advance notice of the changes.

  • Municipal film-permit offices

Issuing authorities would have to send permits listing affected streets and filming dates to municipal police and/or parking enforcement.

  • New York City transportation officials

The Department of Transportation would receive qualifying permits from the mayor’s office of media and entertainment and be responsible for suspending nearby alternate-side parking rules and notifying people.
