What's happening

This bill specifies that certain parole supervision duties must be performed exclusively by parole officers, with limited exceptions.

Why it matters

  1. Ensures that only trained parole officers can perform critical supervision tasks. , such as executing warrants, transporting parolees, and conducting home or field visits—potentially improving the quality, safety, and accountability of parolee supervision.

  2. Limits the use of non-parole officers for sensitive functions. , reducing the risk that less-qualified staff or contractors might handle complex or high-risk situations with parolees, which could impact public safety and the rights of those under supervision.

  3. Clarifies exceptions for warrant execution by authorized officers outside the department. , maintaining law enforcement flexibility in urgent situations while preserving the core responsibilities for parole officers.
