What's happening

This bill extends the expiration date of certain provisions in the Cleaner, Greener NY Act of 2013 from 2017 to 2019.

Why it matters

  1. Continues Funding and Support for Green Initiatives. By extending the expiration date, the bill ensures that programs and funding streams under the "Cleaner, Greener NY Act" can continue without interruption, supporting ongoing environmental and sustainability projects throughout New York State.

  2. Protects Investments and Jobs. Projects and initiatives that depend on the provisions of the Act—such as renewable energy, waste reduction, and community sustainability efforts—are given more time to deliver results, helping to safeguard jobs and investments already made.

  3. Signals Ongoing Commitment to Environmental Goals. The extension demonstrates the state’s continued prioritization of climate action and environmental conservation, providing stability for municipalities, businesses, and organizations planning around these policies.
