What's happening
This bill suspends alternate side parking rules in New York City on all election days, including primaries, run-offs, specials, and general elections.
Why it matters
Reduces barriers to voting access. By suspending alternate side parking on all election days, voters who drive will have an easier time finding legal parking near polling sites, potentially increasing voter turnout, especially for those with mobility issues or in neighborhoods with limited public transit.
Minimizes risk of parking fines on civic duty days. Residents won’t have to worry about getting ticketed or towed for parking violations while participating in elections, reducing stress and financial penalties for those exercising their right to vote.
Promotes clarity and consistency. Making the suspension automatic for all types of elections (primaries, run-offs, specials, and generals) eliminates confusion about which days are covered, ensuring all voters and drivers are equally informed and protected.
