What's happening
This bill requires public disclosure of parties and financial terms in agency agreements or settlements with employees or private entities.
Why it matters
Increases transparency of government spending. by making public the parties and financial terms of agreements or settlements that involve the use of taxpayer money, helping citizens understand how public funds are allocated and spent.
Limits the use of confidentiality clauses. that previously kept the details of settlements or agreements with employees or private entities secret, reducing the potential for misuse or hidden deals within public agencies.
Affects both current and former employees as well as private contractors. in agreements with state agencies, ensuring a broader range of financial arrangements are open to public scrutiny—not just those involving active public employees.
Overrides privacy objections. by specifying that disclosure of these details is not considered an “unwarranted invasion of personal privacy,” potentially shifting the balance between transparency and individual confidentiality in public contracts.
