What's happening

This bill requires restaurants to receive written notice of new or amended health regulations at least 60 days before enforcement.

Why it matters

  1. Gives restaurants more time to adapt to new rules. , potentially reducing surprise violations and fines by ensuring owners have at least 60 days to comply with changes before enforcement begins.

  2. Requires written notification. , which creates a clear paper trail and helps prevent miscommunication about what new regulations exist and when they take effect.

  3. Standardizes the process across New York State and New York City. , meaning all state, city, and local health authorities must follow the same notification and waiting period, reducing confusion for multi-location businesses.

  4. May improve regulatory compliance and food safety. , as restaurants will have a predictable period to train staff, update policies, and make operational changes, rather than scrambling to comply with sudden new requirements.
