What's happening
This bill requires agencies listing unclaimed property to include a prominently displayed phone number for public inquiries.
Why it matters
Improves public access and transparency. by making it easier for people to contact the agency responsible for unclaimed property, potentially increasing the chances that rightful owners can reclaim their assets.
Reduces confusion and potential scams. by ensuring the official contact number is highly visible, which may help individuals avoid third-party "finder" services that sometimes charge fees or operate fraudulently.
Places responsibility on agencies. to be more responsive and accountable, as a visible contact number may lead to higher inquiry volumes, prompting better customer service and faster processing of legitimate claims.
