Why it matters
Addresses nurse retention and workforce shortages. by providing a direct financial incentive ($500) to full-time nurses, which could help reduce turnover and encourage more individuals to remain in the nursing profession.
Recognizes and supports nurse educators. by offering the same tax credit to nurses who teach, potentially helping to alleviate faculty shortages that limit the number of new nurses being trained.
Targets licensed professionals. only—both registered professional nurses and licensed practical nurses—ensuring the benefit is directed at those meeting established state educational and licensing standards.
May indirectly impact patient care and healthcare education. by making nursing and teaching roles more attractive, which could improve staffing levels in healthcare settings and increase the capacity to train new nurses, both of which are critical issues in New York and nationwide.
