What's happening

This bill extends Tioga County’s authority to impose an additional 1% sales and use tax through November 30, 2019.

Why it matters

  1. Continued Local Revenue Generation. Extending Tioga County’s ability to collect an extra 1% sales tax helps maintain funding for local services, infrastructure, and programs without relying solely on state aid or property taxes.

  2. Budget Stability for Tioga County. The extension provides the county government with more predictable revenue streams through November 2019, reducing the risk of budget shortfalls that could impact essential services.

  3. Ongoing Local Tax Policy Flexibility. By renewing the authorization rather than making it permanent, the bill preserves state oversight and gives the legislature a recurring opportunity to review and adjust local tax powers in response to fiscal or political changes.
