What's happening
This bill allows candidates to designate a committee of at least three people to appoint and remove campaign treasurers.
Why it matters
Introduces shared oversight. By allowing candidates to appoint a committee (of at least three people) to control the appointment and removal of campaign treasurers, the bill reduces the risk of unilateral decision-making or potential abuse by a single person.
Potential for increased campaign stability. If a candidate is unavailable or incapacitated, the committee structure ensures continuity in campaign financial management, minimizing disruptions and potential legal issues.
Improved transparency and accountability. Multiple people overseeing the selection and removal of treasurers could help catch errors or questionable behavior earlier, potentially reducing the likelihood of financial mismanagement or violations.
Administrative flexibility. Campaigns, especially larger or more complex ones, may benefit from involving multiple trusted individuals in key compliance matters, distributing responsibility and potentially improving adherence to election law.
