What's happening
This bill adds Rockland County to the list of counties eligible for the Empire State Film Production Credit.
Why it matters
Expanding eligibility to Rockland County means local businesses, workers, and communities there could benefit from increased film and television production activity. , potentially boosting the local economy through job creation and spending on services like hotels, catering, transportation, and construction.
The bill gives Rockland County productions access to a 10% wage/salary tax credit for qualifying film projects with a minimum budget of $500,000. , making the area more attractive to film and TV producers who are deciding where to shoot and hire local talent.
Because the total available credits remain capped at $5 million per year statewide, adding Rockland County could increase competition among counties for these funds. , which may influence where productions choose to spend their budgets and how credits are distributed across the state.
