What's happening

This bill requires law enforcement to create and publicly share monthly reports detailing community notifications about sex offenders.

Why it matters

  1. Increases transparency and accountability. by requiring law enforcement agencies to document and publicly share the specific steps they take each month to notify community organizations about the presence of sex offenders, rather than leaving these actions undocumented or opaque.

  2. Provides insight into public safety procedures. by detailing which “vulnerable entities” (like schools, daycare centers, libraries, nursing homes, etc.) received notifications, allowing community members and organizations to verify whether appropriate warnings are being issued.

  3. Empowers the public and organizations. to assess and possibly question whether notifications are reaching all relevant parties, potentially leading to improved community awareness and safety practices.

  4. Excludes sensitive information about victims and private residents. from reports, aiming to balance transparency with privacy and avoid unnecessary disclosure of personal details.
