What's happening
This bill requires New York state parks to give residents priority access to reserve campsites before non-residents.
Why it matters
Gives New Yorkers first choice at booking in-demand campsites, cabins, and other park accommodations before out-of-state visitors. , which could mean more opportunities for residents to enjoy state resources, especially during peak seasons.
May increase satisfaction among New York residents who sometimes struggle to compete with non-residents for limited campsite availability. , responding to complaints that popular locations are often booked up by non-locals.
Could impact tourism revenue and visitor diversity. , since non-residents might have less access to last-minute or high-demand reservations, potentially discouraging out-of-state visitors or shifting demand to less popular parks and dates.
Requires state agencies to create or update reservation systems and regulations. , which may involve new administrative processes, staff training, and possibly investments in technology to verify residency and manage staggered reservation windows.
