What's happening

This bill prohibits certain public officials from selling real property to the state or city without competitive bidding.

Why it matters

  1. Expands conflict-of-interest rules. to include the sale of real property (not just goods or services) by public officials and certain political party leaders to state or city agencies, closing a previous loophole.

  2. Requires competitive bidding. for any such property sales, making it harder for public officials to benefit privately from their positions through direct deals with government entities.

  3. Addresses potential corruption and self-dealing. by ensuring that public officials and their business interests cannot bypass fair market processes when selling property to the government, potentially increasing public trust in government transactions.

  4. May affect real estate holdings and investment strategies. of officials and party leaders, as they can no longer rely on insider access for property sales to government without open competition.
