What's happening
This bill requires the Department of Agriculture and Markets to post retail food store inspection results, including violations, online.
Why it matters
Expands transparency and public access to food safety data, enabling consumers to make better-informed decisions about where to shop for groceries and prepared foods.
Includes specific definitions for "bodega" and "delicatessen," ensuring that these small businesses are covered by inspection result disclosures, not just large supermarkets.
Creates a public accountability mechanism for retail food stores by requiring the posting of inspection grades and specific violations online within 14 days, which may incentivize improved compliance with health and safety standards.
Could impact the reputation and business of stores with poor inspection results, potentially encouraging higher food safety standards industry-wide.
