What's happening
This bill requires utility companies to include advance notice of public hearings about rate increases on customer bills.
Why it matters
Improves transparency and public awareness. By requiring advance notice of rate increase hearings directly on utility bills, customers are more likely to be informed about potential changes to their costs, rather than missing notices posted elsewhere.
Increases opportunities for public participation. With clear, direct notice, customers have a greater chance to attend or provide input at hearings where rate increases are discussed, making it easier for the public to voice concerns or opposition.
Promotes accountability for utility companies. The law would ensure that utilities cannot claim ignorance or inadequate outreach about rate hike hearings, as they must proactively inform all customers, helping to prevent rate increases from being approved without meaningful public scrutiny.
