What's happening
This bill allows the building inspector for the Town of Wilson in Niagara County to reside outside the town, unlike other towns.
Why it matters
Expands the pool of eligible candidates for building inspector in Wilson, potentially allowing the town to hire more qualified or experienced individuals who live nearby but outside town borders.
Prioritizes flexibility for the Town of Wilson by exempting it from a residency requirement that typically applies to other towns, which could address challenges in recruiting or retaining building inspectors.
Includes specific geographic limits—candidates must still live in Niagara County or an adjoining county in New York—balancing local connection with broader eligibility.
Sets a legislative precedent for other towns seeking similar exceptions, emphasizing the need for state-level approval to change residency requirements for local officials.
