What's happening

This resolution congratulates Theresa Weinman for receiving the Albany Medical Center Volunteer Leadership Award from Unity House.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the critical role of volunteer leadership in supporting marginalized groups. Theresa Weinman’s work spans services for people in poverty, those living with mental illness or HIV/AIDS, domestic violence survivors, and children with developmental delays, underscoring how volunteerism addresses gaps in the social safety net.

  2. Demonstrates the impact of professional and civic engagement. Weinman’s efforts at Albany Medical Center, particularly in coordinating community service learning for medical students, show how integrating volunteerism into education can foster a culture of service in future healthcare professionals.

  3. Showcases the value of global and local outreach. Her involvement with both local organizations (like Family Promise and Unity House) and international efforts (through Engeye, Inc. in Uganda) illustrates how leadership can bridge community needs at home and abroad, inspiring others to broaden their impact.

  4. Serves as a public model for recognition and gratitude. The resolution’s formal acknowledgment may motivate others to contribute to their communities, while also emphasizing that such selfless dedication is worthy of public celebration and emulation.
