What's happening

This resolution urges the Governor to proclaim April 6, 2017, as Alcohol Screening Day in New York to raise awareness about alcohol misuse.

Why it matters

  1. Draws attention to the prevalence of alcohol misuse among vulnerable groups, especially college students, where binge drinking rates and related health risks are notably high.

  2. Highlights the role of anonymous and confidential screening programs as a gateway for individuals to recognize unhealthy alcohol use and receive tailored advice or referrals for treatment.

  3. Seeks to reduce stigma around seeking help for alcohol-related issues by encouraging public participation in screening events and promoting professional support as a positive step.

  4. Connects local action with national public health initiatives, reinforcing the importance of coordinated awareness campaigns to address substance abuse and its wide-ranging health impacts.
