What's happening

This resolution commemorates the 90th anniversary of the Dunham Public Library and recognizes its service to the community.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the long-standing impact of local philanthropy. The origins of the Dunham Public Library show how individual legacies, like that of George Earl Dunham, can have a durable and positive effect on community resources and education for generations.

  2. Emphasizes the library’s evolving role in the community. Over its 90 years, the library has expanded its service area and adapted to serve a broader population, reflecting how public institutions must grow and change to meet the needs of their communities.

  3. Recognizes the broader mission of public libraries. The resolution underscores that libraries do more than lend books—they foster cultural enrichment, support lifelong learning, and serve as accessible, inclusive community hubs.

  4. Reinforces the value of public recognition. By formally commemorating the library’s anniversary, the resolution signals the importance of celebrating and sustaining public institutions that contribute to the educational, cultural, and social vitality of local communities.
