What's happening

This resolution honors Henry VanLeeuwen for his retirement after 45 years of distinguished service on the New Windsor Planning Board.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the long-term local impact of civic engagement. This resolution underscores how one individual's decades-long commitment can significantly shape a community through roles on boards that influence planning, development, and local policy.

  2. Recognizes contributions beyond a single board. By detailing VanLeeuwen’s involvement with various organizations (such as the Orange County IDA, local hospital boards, and service clubs), it showcases the broad influence that volunteer leaders can have on community health, economic growth, and civic life.

  3. Serves as an example of immigrant achievement and integration. VanLeeuwen’s journey from arriving in the U.S. as a child immigrant to becoming a pillar of his community highlights the potential for immigrants to contribute profoundly to American society.

  4. Emphasizes the value of institutional memory and continuity. The resolution points to the benefits of having experienced, long-serving members on local boards, such as providing stability, historical perspective, and mentorship for future leaders.
