What's happening
This resolution honors Henry VanLeeuwen for 45 years of distinguished community service to New Windsor and Orange County.
Why it matters
Highlights the impact of individual civic involvement. The resolution showcases how one person's sustained commitment—across business, planning, and volunteer service—can influence local economic growth, housing development, and community well-being over decades.
Emphasizes the value of volunteer leadership in local institutions. By detailing VanLeeuwen’s roles on the Planning Board, IDA Board, and various nonprofits, it demonstrates how volunteer leaders help shape public policy, create jobs, and support essential services in small communities.
Underscores the importance of immigrant contributions. VanLeeuwen’s story, from immigrating as a child to becoming a pillar of the community, reflects the broader narrative of how immigrants contribute to and enrich American towns and civic life.
Serves as a model for public recognition of community service. The resolution may encourage others to volunteer or acknowledge the unsung efforts of local leaders, fostering a culture of appreciation and civic engagement.
