What's happening

This resolution commends Sita Construction Co., Inc. on its 25th anniversary and recognizes its significant contributions to local and state economies.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the impact of family-owned, immigrant-founded businesses. The resolution emphasizes the story of Bienvenido "Pepe" Carretero, an immigrant who, along with his family, built a successful construction company from the ground up—showcasing the crucial role of immigrant entrepreneurship in local economies.

  2. Recognizes the value of diversity certifications. Sita Construction Co.’s growth after being certified as a D/S/W/MBE (Disadvantaged/Small/Women/Minority Business Enterprise) underscores how such programs can open doors for marginalized groups and promote a more inclusive marketplace.

  3. Connects business achievements with public benefit. By listing major public works—such as restoring critical infrastructure after Superstorm Sandy and building parks and sports facilities—the resolution links the company’s economic contributions to tangible improvements in community quality of life.

  4. Serves as an example for encouraging local economic development. The recognition of Sita Construction Co. serves as a signal from the legislature that sustained local investment, entrepreneurship, and family business succession planning are valued and celebrated, potentially inspiring similar ventures.
