What's happening

This resolution commemorates the 225th anniversary of the Town of Milton, to be celebrated on August 12, 2017.

Why it matters

  1. Celebrating Local Heritage. The resolution recognizes the deep historical roots of the Town of Milton, highlighting its founding in 1792 and the contributions of its early settlers, which fosters community pride and a sense of identity among residents.

  2. Acknowledging Socioeconomic Evolution. By documenting Milton’s transition from a mill-based economy to modern residential development and new industries (like the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program), the resolution underscores the town's adaptability and ongoing relevance in the region.

  3. Highlighting Community Values. The text celebrates Milton's commitment to quality of life, preservation of rural spaces, and development of local business and infrastructure, which may encourage further investment and civic engagement.

  4. State-Level Recognition. Official state acknowledgment not only honors Milton's past but can also strengthen its position for future historical preservation efforts, tourism, and potential access to state resources.
