This resolution commends Roger Harwood for his 54 years of distinguished service to the Wantagh Fire District upon his retirement.
Why it matters
Highlights the critical, behind-the-scenes role of dispatchers. By detailing Roger Harwood’s long career as a dispatcher, the resolution draws attention to how essential dispatchers are in emergency response and public safety—often serving as the first point of contact for those in crisis.
Emphasizes adaptability and mentorship in public service. Harwood’s ability to adapt to new technologies over decades, and his responsibility for training new dispatchers, demonstrates the importance of evolving skill sets and passing on institutional knowledge within emergency services.
Underscores the community impact of long-term service. Recognizing Harwood’s 54 years of dedication, including during major events like Hurricane Sandy, shows the profound positive effect that committed individuals can have on their communities’ safety, resilience, and sense of continuity.
Serves as a model for civic appreciation. This resolution exemplifies how legislative bodies can formally honor and express gratitude to public servants whose work, while not always visible, is foundational to community well-being and emergency preparedness.
