What's happening
This resolution urges Governor Cuomo to declare January 14-20, 2018, as Home Office Safety and Security Week in New York.
Why it matters
Raises awareness of overlooked risks. The resolution highlights that many people setting up home offices fail to recognize common safety and security hazards, emphasizing the need for greater awareness as remote work increases.
Promotes specific safety practices. It encourages practical steps like regular cleaning, installing smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, having an emergency exit plan, and ensuring child supervision—measures that can prevent accidents and protect families.
Emphasizes data and privacy protection. The resolution draws attention to the importance of properly storing and securing sensitive business and client information, recognizing that home offices can be vulnerable to data breaches.
Encourages shared responsibility. By designating a week focused on home office safety, it underscores that both individuals and business owners must actively work to improve physical and digital security in their home workspaces.
