What's happening

This resolution honors Alyssa Mast for receiving the 2017 Scholarship Award from the Major General Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.

Why it matters

  1. Recognition of Academic and Community Excellence. The resolution highlights Alyssa Mast’s outstanding academic performance (ranking 5th in her class) and her significant volunteer work, underscoring the value placed on both scholastic achievement and community service in youth leadership.

  2. Emphasis on Role Models for Youth. By honoring Alyssa, the resolution aims to showcase her as a role model, encouraging other young people to strive for a balance of academic excellence, leadership, and civic engagement.

  3. Support for Aspirations in STEM and Medicine. Alyssa’s planned pursuit of biochemistry and a medical career specializing in pediatric neurology is specifically noted, signaling legislative encouragement for students entering STEM and healthcare fields—especially those focused on critical areas like neurodevelopmental disorders.

  4. Connection to Historic Legacy. The award’s association with the Tuskegee Airmen, an organization rooted in African American military history and achievement, reflects the importance of linking today’s youth success stories with broader narratives of perseverance, breaking barriers, and community uplift.
