What's happening

This resolution commemorates the 105th anniversary of The Rugby Deliverance Tabernacle Church of Brooklyn, New York.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the evolving role of religious institutions. The resolution details how The Rugby Deliverance Tabernacle Church has adapted to serve an increasingly diverse community, reflecting broader demographic changes in Brooklyn over more than a century.

  2. Acknowledges community impact beyond religion. The church’s history of supporting refugees, organizing cultural events, and hosting civic organizations demonstrates the multifaceted contributions of faith-based groups to local social and civic life.

  3. Recognizes immigrant and multicultural heritage. By noting the church’s roots among European immigrants and later inclusion of Caribbean newcomers, the resolution underscores the importance of religious spaces in fostering integration and community cohesion among different populations.

  4. Affirms the significance of leadership in community development. The long-term leadership of Archbishop Dr. Sidley Mullings is credited with expanding the church’s reach and influence, illustrating how individual leaders can shape the direction and impact of local institutions.
