What's happening

This resolution commends Cheryl Bowers for being named the 2018 SUNY New Paltz School of Business Hall of Fame Business Person of the Year.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the significance of breaking gender barriers in leadership. Cheryl Bowers' appointment as the first woman President and CEO of a longstanding community bank underscores progress in gender representation within top business roles, which may inspire others and signal ongoing changes in the industry.

  2. Emphasizes the importance of community involvement and service. The resolution showcases how Bowers' leadership extends beyond her professional achievements, reflecting a broader expectation that business leaders contribute actively to local organizations and civic life.

  3. Demonstrates recognition of multifaceted leadership. By honoring achievements both in business and community service, the resolution indicates that sustained, diverse contributions—such as board service, advocacy, and volunteerism—are valued and celebrated by public bodies.

  4. Encourages future community engagement and leadership. Publicly commending individuals like Bowers serves as an example to others, potentially motivating increased participation in community service and the pursuit of leadership roles, especially among women and underrepresented groups.
