What's happening

This resolution commends Glenn Davis for his exceptional community service and honors him during New York State's Older New Yorkers Day.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the Impact of Lifelong Volunteerism. By recognizing Glenn Davis’s decades of service—including his roles as mayor, volunteer firefighter, and founder of The Ramp Guys—the resolution underscores how one individual's sustained volunteer work can create tangible benefits and lasting improvements in local communities.

  2. Promotes Intergenerational Values. The commendation notes Davis’s commitment to passing on the value of community service to his children, suggesting a broader societal impact by encouraging future generations to engage in civic life and volunteerism.

  3. Draws Attention to Grassroots Solutions for Accessibility. The work of The Ramp Guys, who build free accessibility ramps for seniors and people with disabilities, demonstrates how local volunteer-led initiatives can address critical needs, inspire similar projects, and fill gaps not always met by government or large organizations.

  4. Elevates the Social Value of Older Adults. By celebrating Davis during Older New Yorkers Day, the resolution affirms the ongoing contributions of older adults, challenging stereotypes about aging and reinforcing the importance of recognizing and honoring elders’ active roles in society.
