What's happening

This resolution commends The Parkway Center for celebrating Vietnam Veterans Day with a public pinning ceremony honoring veterans and Gold Star families.

Why it matters

  1. Public recognition like this helps address the historical lack of acknowledgment many Vietnam veterans experienced when they first returned home, providing overdue appreciation and healing for both veterans and their families.

  2. The ceremony’s inclusion of Gold Star families—those who lost loved ones in service—spotlights their sacrifice and brings community attention to the often overlooked grief and resilience of military families.

  3. Events like this foster community engagement and intergenerational understanding about the Vietnam War, encouraging broader participation in honoring service members and learning about the war’s impact on American society.

  4. By tying local ceremonies to national efforts commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, the resolution reinforces the importance of coordinated, community-based remembrance and education across the country.
