What's happening

This resolution honors Marjorie S. Becker for receiving the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce.

Why it matters

  1. Celebrates decades of local economic and civic contribution. The resolution highlights Marjorie S. Becker's long-standing leadership of a multi-generational family business (MIDTEL), underlining the importance of small, locally owned companies in sustaining rural economies and adapting to technological change.

  2. Recognizes women’s achievements in business and education. By detailing Becker’s roles as a business executive, educator, and community leader, the resolution brings attention to the impact of women in traditionally male-dominated sectors and their role in shaping local communities.

  3. Acknowledges intergenerational legacy and community involvement. The honor spotlights not just Becker’s personal achievements, but also her efforts to mentor the next generation, her support of local causes, and the value of family businesses in fostering community identity and resilience.

  4. Sets a public example of civic virtue and service. By formally recognizing Becker’s humility, generosity, and dedication, the resolution encourages civic engagement and highlights the societal value of individuals who quietly but persistently contribute to community well-being.
