This resolution honors John Bowne High School for receiving CTE Model Program Recognition for its exemplary Agriculture Program.
Why it matters
Highlights the importance of specialized, hands-on education. John Bowne High School’s Agriculture Program offers students unique real-world experiences, such as working on a 3.8-acre urban farm and participating in internships at veterinary hospitals, farms, and other agriculture-related businesses.
Addresses workforce development in agriculture. The program prepares students for in-demand careers by providing technical skills, business partnerships, and pathways to higher education and employment in agricultural fields—a sector with growing workforce needs.
Demonstrates educational equity and opportunity. As one of only two schools in New York City with a comprehensive four-year agriculture program, it provides urban students with access to opportunities typically unavailable in city environments, helping diversify the talent pipeline in agriculture.
Sets a standard for other educational programs. The recognition as a CTE Model Program underscores the value of rigorous curriculum, strong leadership, and high student achievement, serving as a model for integrating career and technical education into public schools.
