What's happening

This resolution honors Dr. T. Gregory Dewey for receiving the Third Age Achievement Award for Education from Senior Services of Albany.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the impact of lifelong leadership in higher education. Dr. Dewey’s initiatives—such as launching student-operated pharmacies and forging industry partnerships—demonstrate the ongoing contributions that experienced leaders can make in their “third age,” challenging stereotypes about aging and professional productivity.

  2. Underscores the importance of community engagement from academic institutions. By forming advisory and community councils, Dr. Dewey connected academia with local organizations, showing how colleges can play a vital role in addressing community health and workforce needs.

  3. Recognizes the broader value of role models for active aging. By honoring achievements after age 60, the resolution promotes positive aging and encourages others to remain engaged in professional and civic life well into their later years.
