What's happening

This resolution commends East Flatbush Village, Inc. for hosting a Stop the Bleed event to educate the public on lifesaving bleeding control.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the importance of community preparedness. The resolution underscores that bystanders—often the first on the scene before emergency responders—can be trained to save lives during emergencies, especially in controlling severe bleeding.

  2. Promotes public health education. By commending the event, the resolution signals legislative support for expanding public awareness and hands-on training in lifesaving techniques, akin to CPR or defibrillator use.

  3. Addresses vulnerability in underserved communities. Recognizing East Flatbush Village, Inc.'s focus on indigent populations, the resolution affirms the value of making critical emergency skills and tools accessible to populations who may face greater barriers to medical care.

  4. Supports broader adoption of emergency resources. The event and this commendation encourage wider dissemination of bleeding control kits and training, potentially influencing public policy or funding for similar initiatives statewide.
